Concorde’s  – chronology

In 1956 in Europe began  supersonic airline research. As a result six years later the British and French Governments sign an international treaty for the joint design, development and manufacture of a supersonic airliner. The first pre-production model was produced in Toulouse in 1967 and since then, there have been a number of notable dates in the history of Concorde.

2 March 1969
In Toulouse France take off the first flight of Concorde 001.

9 April 1969
From Filton, Bristol, UK to the test centre at Fairford flew the first flight of Concorde 002

1 October 1969
First supersonic flight of the Concorde.

28 June 1972
Five Concordes  were ordered by the British Airways (BOAC).

20 September 1973
First visit to the USA - Concorde 002 landed at Dallas/ Fort Worth on.

17 June 1974
First “there and back” Atlantic crossing in one day.

5 December 1975
Concorde was awarded Certificate of Airworthiness by UK Civil Aviation Authority.

21 January 1976
British Airways begins  commercial supersonic travel from London to Bahrain.

22 November 1977
First British Airways Concorde's commercial flight  London - New York.

8 November 1986
First around the world flight by a British Airways Concorde - 28,238 miles were covered in 29 hours 59 minutes.

7 February 1996
New record flight time of Concorde G-BOAD  -  2 hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds to  cross the Atlantic between New York and London.

11 August 1999
Two British Airways Concordes flew in supersonic formation to keep up the total eclipse of the sun.

7 November 2001
British Airways pre-arranged services were re-launched to New York.

4 June 2002
At the time of  Queen's Golden Jubilee celebration Concorde flies up the Mall with the Red Arrows.

24 October 2003
Concorde’s last commercial flight from New York to London.
